The modern term just has a completely different connotation than the actual ancient philosophy. Epicureans also thought that friendship mattered but you shouldn't be like politically active in your society, right. So there's a kind of withdrawal from things and I don't know I think everybody was a little bit standoffish with them because they're not like the rest of us who think that virtue matters in itself.
