Is There a Tree? Plural?

The class was walking along a cliff face and I saw something familiar on it. It was the same symbol we'd seen carved into the tree, only like I said, this one was much, much bigger. The teacher told me she didn't know who might have been able to carve such a thing in that big of a rock. She also used the plural 'carvings' which honestly scared me more than it should have.
