The Story of the Tomahkachi
The Tomahkachi came from a data entry clerk at the Bandai Toy Company in Japan. Akameida was watching TV when she thought of a toy pet that kids could look after and take with them everywhere they went. The idea for an egg-shaped handheld pet, which they called TomahKachi, is a mashup of the Japanese words for egg and friend. They also came up with the toy's origin story: An alien creature who traveled from its home planet millions of miles to learn about Earth.
