The Problem With Macron's Pension Reforms
The French economist, Tomah Piquetti, has argued the pension reforms are unfair. He argues they will force people in grueling and physically demanding professions to toil well into their 60s. Those professions already have lower life expectancy and worse health outcomes compared to richer middle-class university graduates. But this is all symptomatic of a larger problem of Macron's presidency. A lot of his taxes seem to be hurting the working and lower middle classes rather than asking the wealthiest and healthiest to chip in more. Some people wonder whether it might even, given the country's long history of constitutional upheaval, see the collapse of France's Fifth Republic.
