The History of the Sea Otter in Central California
In the late 90s, Long Beach had lost its naval yard and was leaning into more commercial shipping. The waterfront area that in past times had been kind of like a Coney Island. And they were thinking about like fixing it up and attracting tourism. People came up with the idea of putting an aquarium here,. which a lot of people kind of laughed at long beach had nothing but a reputation as like an oil town and then navy town. So to this day, they're the public relations sort of face of the place.
