CERN's Rick Collider Could Produce a Strangelet
CERN has been trying to prove that its large Hadron Collider won't doom humanity. The story really starts in 1999, the first time anyone seriously raised the idea that a particle collider might be able to end the world. A reader was concerned that the Rick might produce a microscopic black hole when particles collided inside of it. But physicist Frank Wilczyk pointed out classical physics doesn't allow for microscopic black holes to exist at all.
