The Supreme Court's Decision to Permit MAID
The Supreme Court used the logic that by criminalizing physician-assisted dying, that individuals who have a degenerative disease are forced to take their own life when they are capable. The same section of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms had been used two decades prior to criminalize euthanasia in Rodriguez versus British Columbia. "Human life should not be deprecated by allowing life to be taken, especially by a physician," it was quoted as saying.
