I'll sometimes gauge whether or not I should do this or that by asking myself would my grandfather have done that. My grandfather was very stoic but he if you would have asked him to explain stoic philosophy to you he certainly could not do. One of the things you learn in military culture is to learn how to suffer in silence yes and to take all your emotions your feelings as a man.
