i think it can be very hard to accept that a good person, a decent person, can hold really ugly beliefs or do really ugly things. We all should have some appropriate humility about how much of what we take to be our right views are a function of who brought us up,. and how different we might have been had we been brought up somewhere differently. i don't think the white outh africans i grew up with, i mean, there were things they couldn't have failed to see, so they were choosing to look away from.
