If you go back to 1900 and compare the mortality in the United States then to today, there has been no change in the adjusted mortality. In other words, we don't live any longer today than we did 120 years ago with the exception of infectious diseases. And so you would argue that medicine 2.0 has done really well at intervening near the end of life, extending life but often at the cost of relatively low quality of life for those extra months or years it delivers.
