It's always going to feel a little bit slippery when you try to count along with it. It really does help to focus on the drums. If you can hear that high hat on the downbeat, it'll help you land on your feet. For whatever reason, that second odd meter bar is just a little easier to count. I guess it's also easier to get your head around adding an eighth note rather than subtracting one.
