The great steampunk fetish is the airship, right? That's how you know you're in a steampunk world is you look up and you see Zeppelin's flying overhead. They're so common in alternate history that you might even speculate that there's something about messing with the time stream just causes spontaneous generation of Zeppelins or blimps or dirigibles or airships. There's a lot of talk of bringing these things back because when they aren't exploding over New York City, they actually are a very energy efficient form of travel.
