Descartes's Methodology of Doubt

We cannot really know what was going on in descartes's head. Let us treat him with the respect of assuming that he meant what he wrote. It is said that descartes doubted as no philosopher before had doubted. But if we take him at his word, we have to conclude thatdescartes hardly doubted at all. Decart believed in his propositions via faith, revelatory knowledge. For he honestly felt thee things to be true. We nevertheless, could not place this argument before infidels, who might accuse us of reasoning in a circle.
