The History of the Bible

As the dead sea scrolls attest, there was no such thing as a correct version. Dozens of versions of the biblical books floated around the greek states and later the roman empire. The new american bible is based on the masaretic text, but its compilers also went to the septuagent and to the dead sea scrulls where they felt those provided better readings. In the next episode, i will finish our tour of the bibles with a look at the more obscure canon.
