Aristotelian Philosophy of Nature
Aristotle is famous for defending that things in nature have purposes or goals or ends. The final cause is that for the sake of which a thing is or comes to be, he says. Aristotle thought that all things of nature have these four causes and you understand a thing in nature by discovering the four causes that go into it.
