The 78 Speck Changes the Bus
The s 100 standard was a possible bottle neck. It only supported eight bit data buses. Larger bus sizes allowed these new chips to be more efficient when dealing with memory. An 80 86 in an s 100 system, for instance, wouldn't perform as well as if the chip was in a more accustomed computer.
