5% Per Month - Is That Really a Good Number?

10% per annum is roughly the long-term average annual return of the S&P 500. Wall Street wants people to believe that because they then get to charge people a whole bunch of fees for not doing very much and just managing the money. If you invest $5,000 and it earns 10% per random five years time, you got about $8,000. But if you take that same $10,000 and you invest it at 5% per month and compound it monthly instead of annually, you end up with about $330,000 in five years.
