The Teals Changed Australian Politics
Olympic medalist Zali Stekel ran as an independent on a climate action platform in one of the Liberal Party's safer seats. She was joined by six other independents, who won previously very safe Liberal Party seats on a platform of climate action and integrity in government. Together these independents, called teals from the colour of their t-shirts, had changed Australian politics. They were seen by many voters to have gone too far to the right on many issues.
