In 1991, Mark E. Wahlberg's Good Vibrations became the second ever rap song to top the Hot 100. The fact that only very poppy rap songs by white people were charting well did not go unnoticed. In order for more rappers besides Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark to top the charts, the Hot 100 would need a sound scan reboot.
