Is It My Will That My Former Fiance Should Hear?

When you read this story, read the agonies of kirkegard in giving up the earthly thing that made him happiest. There's one thing that startles but doesn't surprise, or two things perhaps. The first is that he believed the engagement was just as binding as marriage. And the second is something he says in the very first sentence of tat will. I misread it the first time on purpose so i could close it here. He didn't actually say, it is my will that my former fiance should inherit, et cetera. He said, it is, of course, my will, of course."
