The mississippi river was the edge of the frontier. For people living back east, it seemed as far away as france or russia. Most people would never get to see it. It was his plan to take this far off world to the people and cities back east. He had little to keep him company, food, a few pieces of clothing, a blanket. But most importantly, he had paper and pencil. As john's skiff meandered its way down the mississippi, he would stop to sketch nearly everything he saw.
