How to Predict When a Patient Will Be Difficult
About 1 in 300 will have be a failed intubation. The problem is we're not good at predicting when it will happen. Only about 25% of patients who physicians thought would be difficult actually did end up being difficult. Don't ever assume that because a patient looks like they will be an easy intubation, make sure you know your difficult airway algorithm and are ready to call for help early.
