The Appropriate Theory of Language
We're going to go into the final area of the debate before we do ask you for your questions. In terms of this idea of adequate I just wanted to ask our linguist, what would that word be doing in this account then? If it's an adequate theory of language you want something commensurate with things which people can tell you a fact of a language. It has to be about things like words like self have to be identified locally. There are universal facts about language actually, there is interaction,. That's how children learn it by interacting first their parents and interacting with their colleagues - so at that level there are universal languages.
