Phenylaprin is similar to norepinephrine. It causes significant arterial vasoconstriction and thus elevates SVR and PVR. Phenylaprin has no inotropic properties. If cardiac function is impaired, cardiac output may be reduced by the increase afterload even though the blood pressure increases. There's little to no evidence supporting the use of renal low dose dopamine in children with shock. And typically, we go for direct acting vasoactive agents such as epinephrine and norepine cortisol.
