Shankar Vedanta: We gravitate toward people who are similar to us in some way. He says this phenomenon is known as homophily and it's so common that most of us don't even realize we do it. In the US, he says, there's a huge amount of homophily by economic class. That tends to be in areas where you have very low mobility, he says.
