What Is a Recession?
Recessions are viewed differently depending on which vantage point you're sitting on. The NBER definition of a recession is the period between the peak and the trough in the business cycle graph. Now there necessarily doesn't have to be a negative GDP growth. A depression is basically a worse version of a recession where it can usually last for years, even decades. It includes high unemployment rates across multiple economies.
