The Effect of Altruism on Fathers' Spending

Fathers have a lower willingness to pay for goods for their daughters relative to their sons. Mothers appear to be spending a little bit more on their daughters, although the difference is not statistically significant or quite as large as the opposite gap for fathers. The study suggests that altruism or preferences love is an important determinant of why fathers are spending less and mothers are not.
