I'll Know It When I See It
In the first chapter of his new book, A Wrinkle in Time, author Andrew Keen talks about how we define things without even realizing it. For example, when asked to define harcoponography, a judge said: i'll know it when i see it. And similarly with slavery, you end up in this absolute mess where there's lots of stuff that fits a definition that clearly isn't slavery. The conundrum is, like, why has slavery only been considered bad for the last 200 years? It's pretty weird that aristotle and plato and all these fancy people were all al right with savoury some wasayther.
