God's Not Going to Be Enough

Mormon identity persists as something other than a demographic, because it's tied to a different understanding of the self. The Amish are trying to protect all the different degrees of success and repression necessary to keep that. That is what the populist right wants to universalize. They want to take that communal sense of self that alloys capitalism and universalize it. But oops can't do it. Why no frontier? Only alloyed with a frontier. It destroyed itself in Europe over and over again until America synthesized it and imposed a new order where it says, hey, Brit, hey, hey Europeans, we're going to subsidize you people to pretend you're doing capitalism.
