If you cannot keep thoughts at bay simply by choosing not to think, put your attention on something. I suggest feeling the alive liveness in the inner body or being aware of your breathing flowing in and out of the body. Some people tell me that sometimes ive to demonstrate the rising of the inner space without thinking. So in between the left hand and the right hand, there's the space of no thinking. And then you become alert enough to create a space between thoughts. If you're drift off into thinking, put your tension back into the body. Now open your eyes and continue your meditation with your eyes open, just being present with your sense perceptions.
