The Best Predictor of the Quality of an Article Is the Writer
Good writing starts off well, so it always has, generally has a really good introduction. The fact that it's written by susan orleon is predictor of the quality and the value to me. I stop reading as soon as it becomes clear to me that the article is not of great interest. If it's another take on an obvious breaking news story, then i'm simply not going to proceed with it. Even if the subject is unpromising, even if the publication is unknown to me, even if it breaks my cardinal rule of starting badly, i'm still going to carry on because i believe that that good writer is always going to write well.
