Evagrius of Pontus wrote extensively about the challenges and tactics of asceticism. Like other desert fathers, he adopted a hermetic lifestyle to escape temptation. Evagrius sometimes seems to agree with controversial Origenist claims that all souls existed free from body before they sinned. His writings frequently referred to Plato's three-part soul.
