After finishing her PhD in physics, she decided to go into science editing. She was extraordinarily lucky that a space opened up at nature - the science journal. Her job was as an editor deciding which papers to publish. But so there was no formal part of the job that meant she needed to write anything. And after several years, she figured, well, maybe I'd like to write a book. So she went part time at nature and gradually sort of stepped down until finally he officially cut his ties as an employee at nature. He now writes for new scientists and, you know, the scientific media.
