The Death of Matilda Shore in 1861
In 18 61, 19 year old matilda shore died after working in a factory where she was exposed to arsenic lace dyes. The ladies sanitary association decided to fight against the harsh working conditions that have been harming these laborers and green diprotic consumers for so long. A typical head dress containing artificial flowers dyed with shield's green dye, contains about 80 grains of arsenic. That's enough to kill 20 people. And a full gown using roughly 20 yards of green dyed fabric contains about 900 grains of arse. Just four or five grains of arsenic is considered lethal for the average adult.
