The Path to Religion Related Violence
My interest in the whole question of religion related violence started even before 9-11. I was living in Jakarta then in Indonesia, and I saw how people responded to what happened in the United States. In conflict studies, there was a lot of focus on these mentalistic approaches on violence. There is less attention for specific biographical notes on why people commit violence. And we thought, well, this is very interesting to combine conflict studies on one hand with more general mentalistic approaches towards violence. On the other hand, also material religion and the very sensibility that creates material religion towards things of conflict. So, and that was the image or intuition you might say of what that created to this
