The Story of Lorraine Wilson and Wendy Evans

Lorraine Wilson was one of four children in a close-knit family. She followed in the footsteps of her mother who had served as a nurse during World War II. Her work ethic inspired her to pursue nursing after finishing high school. In 1974 she met fellow trainee Wendy Evans at St George Hospital, Sydney. The two friends embarked on an interstate bus tour visiting popular tourist destinations like Townsville, Mounaisa, Catherine, Darwin and Alice Springs. Their car broke down half way through their 800-kilometre road trip from Dubbo to Brisbane. They were hesitant about hitchhiking, but after some deliberation, they decided to take the risk. It paid off.
