Is This a Forced Form of Sanctification?

When my father came into the UPCI as a late teenager early young adult in the early mid 80s that if you missed the church service and you, let's say you called the pastor to let them know you're going to miss church because you're sick. And they would actually send people from the church after service in the afternoon to come spy on you to make sure you were actually sick and not doing something else other than coming to church. They might follow reverse recounting seeing the pastor mowing his lawn and his good dress clothes because he always had to look the best for Jesus. He recounts the seeing one of the pastor's wives she was in. She had a major operation
