Streaming: The Future of Data Management
Change data capture is actually a place that streaming shines, right? If you're extracting data from a database, you want to do it at the log level. So I think that's a positive place on streaming. And then pretty much as soon as possible, it's writing chunks of like historical log into cloud storage as regular files. It basically represents sort of a streaming log of your data in a sort of a pen-only log. What it does is it's really just dealing with the really recent data that's being written to that log.
Summary
Batch vs. streaming is a long running debate in the world of data integration and transformation. Proponents of the streaming paradigm argue that stream processing engines can easily handle batched workloads, but the reverse isn't true. The batch world has been the default for years because of the complexities of running a reliable streaming system at scale.
