The Effects of Text Message Alerts on Absenteeism
The study tested different methods of enrolling parents in the text message alert programme. The first group were given the option to enroll through the district's online portal and very few people did it. They were sent a text message saying they could enroll by simply replying with the word start - 11% chose to do so. A third group had it even easier. They were automatically enrolled in the programme but could opt out by responding saying stop. In this group 95% of parents remained enrolled. So first group 1% second 11% this final group 95% stay enrolled.
