The Church's Answer to the Birth Control Problem
In days medieval women were in law at least in the control of their men through their lives. A wife has no authority over her body but her husband. The problem was that people appeared to enjoy it as well. And I would never do. Because lust led to illicit sex, wrong sex, bad sex. Sex just for fun rather than sex for the greater good of humanity. That was where the serpent had entered the garden as it were. Without that darned apple, procreation would have simply been carried out like any other bodily function like cutting your fingernails. As far as the church was concerned, therefore the answer to all of this was mariage.
