Is There a Consciousness in AI Language Models?

The problem with neural networks or deep learning neural networks that are doing these kinds of things like language models. They are literally giant black boxes where we give them instructions and they give us outputs, but we have no clue what happens inside. We might end up with diminishing returns at some point. It's kind of unknown. People are trying to work on systems to make that more transparent. But we're still pretty far from it.
