The Imperial Bodyguard of the Byzantines

When an emperor dies with no successor, the imperial bodyguard will more often than not have the final say. Flavius Yostenus, known to us in English as simply Justin, was around 66 when he became emperor. We don't know if that's exactly how it happened, as the histories have slight variations in the order of events. But what is in little doubt is that when an emperor dies without a successor, the Imperial Bodyguard will usually have the last say.
