The Importance of Views About Language

Do you find that there's a sort of a rift in how we talk about this just popularly versus how it's spoken about academically? Yeah, I think so, yes. But the thing is that academia, what academia does or should do is observe the world, essentially, and understand it and make sense of it. The layperson has a view of language and academia understands it, tries to understand it.
