The number of people that a single person is able to kill by themselves has not increased over time. That's partly because these new technologies that can kill could kill a lot of people, but it requires more people involved into making them work. The Hollywood trope I get kind of unbelievably annoyed at is the villain up on the layer on the mountaintop with a cave full of equipment that all works the first time.

On his 68th birthday, Kevin Kelly began to write down for his young adult children some things he had learned about life that he wished he had known earlier. To his surprise, Kelly had more to say than he thought, and kept adding to the advice over the years, compiling a life’s wisdom into the pages of his book: Excellent Advice for Living.
