The Importance of Sound Recording Technology

The sound recording technology was only around a relatively recently, and yet so many species have become so rare or extinct. An amateur naturalist called John Hooper used it to record some of the earliest recordings of British bats that we have. And by doing so, he was able to prove that each species of bat echo locates at a particular frequency,. So you can identify bats purely by their sound - which is perfect if you're surveying bats during the night.
