The Importance of Being a Peasant

Is the movement towards a life without heavy use of machine power technology capable of being everyone's life in a gradated fashion? Or is it available just to a certain socioeconomic class that can afford it within a system where everything else is necessary wage labor, driving a lot of cars and texting your boss. People like me would also have to support other people like me economically; if I make handmade soap and walk or bike everywhere, but do all my shopping at Save A Lot or Walmart or Home Depot, then I'm not doing anything to reciprocate what the people who are buying my soap are doing. So you have to bear that in mind.
