The Trauma of My Parents' Marriage
My parents' marriage, really. And not only my parents marriage, it was violence within the area. I worked in a pub from the age of 13 to the age of 16. My father would get into fights all the time. You would see fights and pubs and things. We once came out of a club in Hackney,. me and a black friend of mine, Raymond, and a car pulled up behind him, wound down the back window, grabbed his jumper... we ended up both getting dragged along the dual carriageway. So there was lots of that. There was a lot of inarticulacy and violence.
