Tracy costly is head of department and senior lecturer in the department of language and linguistics at the University of Essex. Her research interests include academic literacy English as an additional language learners and student identity in writing at university. Tracy: There's a certain formality to academic language maybe that isn't always present in more general English. So I think there are spaces for teachers to be able to say, yes, things change and this language is in motion by all language, but there are really key features.
