The History of Waverly Hills Sanatorium
Tuberculosis is the 13th leading cause of death globally to this day. Waverly Hills Sanatorium was closed in June 1961 as Streptomycin was developed in 1943 and became the main treatment for tuberculosis, making sanatoriums essentially obsolete. To hide the bodies from other patients who were coming in and out of the facility, there was a 500 foot tunnel about 183 meters. It's essentially infamous at this point known as the body shoot.
