The Fiscal Effects of Immigration on the Federal Balance Sheet
An immigrant is said to contribute on average a little over $1,000 more in revenues than they receive in federal benefits. The net fiscal benefit to the federal government is between $100,000 and $300,000. An additional immigrant costs state and local governments about $2,000 more at the state and local level relative to the taxes that they receive.
